Blessed

Aveena,

Today I have learned that not all powers have turned a blind eye upon those of us who walk this earth. I have been blessed! By one of our creators, Aveena, the Fey Lord Oberon himself! He who tricked the griffons and the mortals into love, but them himself fell in love with their offspring, the first of our kind. He has sworn to grant me powers to hunt and destroy our foes! The Nemean’s days have been numbered since Jorus dared harm you, my love, and now I see their end coming swifter yet! I yet need more strength and more magics, but this is a boon beyond that I could have hoped for. I feel an energy welling up inside me, something…different, something powerful. I have been blessed with the Fury of the Ancestors, and now by the Lord of Fey. Nature itself rises up the Nemeans through me. Aveena, your vengeance will soon be at hand.

I feel you watching over me, beloved. I feel your warm caress in the winds, I hear your gentle laughter in the brooks. May you ever be with me, my Fifth Wind.

Nik's Letter - Strange days
Dear Mama,

There are days out here when I wish I’d never left home, and just settled down to be an accountant or whatever damn things Father wanted me to be. I’ve been doing a lot of living off the land and (trying to eat) trail rations. Adventuring life’s tough, and not just in the food department. But if the food were better, the rest would be easier to take. Sometimes I feel like if I had a few bites of your homemade balaclava, I could walk a thousand leagues without stopping.

It’s not to be, I know. But I guess it tells you how much I miss home these days. I’ve seen some really weird things that cultists were doing, don’t worry, they didn’t stab me very much. And I got some folk to look out for me, even if I haven’t seen old Rhoin the Fuzzy in a couple weeks. He was trying to figure out what was wrong with this creepy forest (yes it really was creepy, not just me not liking forests) and needed some druidic help, but then on a mission to retrieve an axe actually forged by Hephaestos himself he accidentally killed a fairy. And so they put a mark on him saying he was bad. So he went back to the forest to try and make things better, but he hasn’t caught up with us yet.

Anyway, just lots of traveling, and occasionally a town (hence the letter since rolling grasslands don’t have post offices ha ha) and we’re on our way to Crete. Yes we have papers, no I’m not going to steal anything, and yes I know better than to make advances on anyone who worships Artemis. I figured that one out last time.

Give my love to the rest of the family, and if you happen to misplace some homemade goodies, and they wind up in my hands, I could die a happy man (not that I’m going to die, no ha ha).

Love,

Nik

The Black Wind Howls...

I will destroy whatever dared harm this forest! To desecrate the forest, its inhabitants, and to play with me like I was some mewling fawn – this creature has earned my ire as few have before! Two creatures I must destroy, two paths I must follow – this is not acceptable. Your vengeance will be had first, Aveena. The Father-beast of the Nemeans will fall to my hands first – no other hunt will pry my attention away for long. I will cast its form to the four winds and deliver its accursed soul to Hades myself!

Then…then I can return to my place in nature. And then this creature, be it a minion of Hades as Nik seems to fear or the very incarnation of evil itself, will feel the wrath of the wilds delivered upon its head!

Hear me now, creature! I am Rhoin of the Fifth Wind – I hunt that which cannot be found, I slay that which cannot be killed, and from here forth your days are numbered! Run, if you can, fight, if you dare, but know that the winds howl for your blood and I intend to deliver it to them!

Rage of the Wilds

Aveena,

I burn this demon’s heart under this bright moon that its ashes may sink its evil into the purifying earth and its smoke might carry my message to you on the great winds, wherever you are. Another Nemean lays dead at my feet. It’s mane was still fresh with the blood of an unfortunate soul I didn’t arrive in time to save. This one fought with such fervor, such bloodlust I could almost feel it. For that matter, I still can. I feel such…rage! Such pain! Ancestors help me, what’s happening to me?! Is this you, Artemis? Another curse upon my head? Cergus and Jorus weren’t enough of a punish-... Aaargh!

Mrph…my head…The sun’s risen already? How long was I asleep…what’s this? Teeth of the ancestors that gave us speed and strength? Feathers of the ancestors that us wisdom and wings? I feel…so strong! This is no curse, but a gift! Thank you, Ancestors! Thank you, Aveena! Thank you, Greatmother! You may attempt to throw me to the ground, Artemis, but the Greatmother Gaia and all who I fight for push me up, stronger than ever!

As the four winds wrap the world, may you ever wrap me, Aveena. I feel you standing with me, my love, my Fifth Wind.

Lies from on High

Today I witnessed something I’ve not seen before and hope never to again. Early this morning a full siege started on this peaceful town by an orc tribe being led or working with the same cult we’ve been fighting for some time. I aided in the defense of the city and took every opportunity to protect the people of the town. It was…just disgusting.

The hunt is a beautiful thing. Tracking your prey is an art for the ages. Wresting victory is a great moment of triumph. Putting the creature’s life to new use is an honor and a privilege for the the hunter and the prey. As the hunt is a part of the cycle, so the hunter becomes a part of the cycle as well. It is glorious.

But this…this was just murder on a grand scale. A perversion of the cycle to the greatest extent. Yes all things must die, but nothing should die for no reason. Life is sacred, and so when taken the act must be as well. As a hunter, as a part of the great cycle, I feel compelled to strike against those who would desecrate the cycle. If the gods will not protect this world, then I will do what I can to.

Speaking of the gods, I’ve seen that apathy spreads further that Artemis herself. A temple of the gods, a worship place for all who would seek the wisdom and protection of the gods, was laid low in the attack by mortal magic. Many priests of many gods died in the attack. Krusik and Nik, himself a worshiper of Hermes which is certainly fitting, were both extremely wounded when I showed up. It seems even in their own temple, the gods supposed patronage of mortals falls slack. They seem to care not for even their own temples.

Lessen learned, harshly and repeatedly: never put your faith in lies from on high. A mistake I will never make again.

A Prayer of Blood

Aveena,

I burn this demon’s heart that its ashes may sink its evil into the purifying earth and its smoke might carry my message to you on the great winds, wherever you are. Another Nemean lays dead, another beast which will not claim more lives the “gods” cannot protect. Five years have past since…since I failed you. Since Jorus stole you from me and since Artemis abandoned you in your time of need. Five years have you been missing from my life, five years I have missed you. Five years I have still loved you.

I have since met a cleric of Hades which claimed to be able to restore life to a lost one. Some days I feel so lost that I begin to consider such an abominable act. Was it not for your nightly visits in my meditation I fear I might have fallen to such desires. Even gone, you keep me steady in this world.

As I swore so long ago as you returned to the earth and sky, I so swear again tonight: I will not rest until the great father of these demons has been forced to his grave or I die trying. I will slay his children until he finds me or I him. I do so in your name, to avenge your death and honor your life.

May you continue to watch over me, my love. As the four winds wrap the world, may you ever wrap me. May you ever be my Fifth Wind.

Nik's Letter - New Adventure
Dear Mama,

It’s been a while since I’ve written, and I’m sorry for it being such a long time. I hooked up with a new group of adventurers to go and get this crazy key thing from an old ruin that used to be owned by the Titans! It was pretty dark down there but Rhoin (he’s like a half-elf half-gryphon thingy) is pretty sure-footed and can see in the dark, and he was nice enough to let me ride him around in the tunnels.

There were some bad men from a cult who didn’t want us to get the key, but me, Rhoin, and Krusik (he’s pretty nice for a half-orc, not scary like that one sailor guy who threatened Dad with an oar while we were on vacation that one time) fended them off. They had a pet giant too but we didn’t run into him.

It paid okay (obviously enough for postage, ha ha) and we found some funny documents that got us another mission from the same employer. She had us take off to Thebes to go check out some ancient Titan supply cache (exciting! I hope I find some cool stuff). We stopped in a small village, and found out that there was a Namean lion around. Rhoin hunts them (though he seems really sad about it, and he has like some Namean ghosts that follow him around, which is weird, I guess he has some history with them) so he wanted to go out after it. We planned it real careful, and then ambushed it when it came after the bait (no I was not the bait). I dropped off Rhoin’s back and landed right on top of it! It was a really tense fight, but we were totally prepared and kicked its fuzzy butt.

Anyway, the people of the town were really grateful (no, there are no cute halfling girls here who want to marry me, before you ask), and treated us to a feast. I have to go tan the Namean’s hide now, so I have to be done writing.

Tell Agalia and Agape that I am bringing their kids some Namean teeth to make necklaces out of, and if you see Alexandros this weekend, tell him that I am so awesome that I took on a Namean and won. What’s he beaten up recently, rowdy peasants? =P

I love you lots, and I’ll try and write as soon as I can.

Love,

Nik

P.S. Can you ask Dad what the technical classification of a gryphon-elf-man is? I want to know if Rhoin can get any tax breaks for being really weird-looking.

Another Hunt

We’ve finally found the key we were sent off to find. I found no traces of nemeans on the island and, with the exception of a strange group of people also after the key, we had an easy enough time getting it. Apparently there’s good odds they’ll still be after the same cache we are now – again for the same woman who sent us after the key to begin with. We’re heading off to find the cache which is supposedly somewhere off in the hills of Thebes. I’ve heard from the locals in Athens there are supposedly some nemeans over in the hills. Convenient.

Hopefully a hunt will be awaiting us on our way.

Welcome to your Adventure Log!
A blog for your campaign

Every campaign gets an Adventure Log, a blog for your adventures!

While the wiki is great for organizing your campaign world, it’s not the best way to chronicle your adventures. For that purpose, you need a blog!

The Adventure Log will allow you to chronologically order the happenings of your campaign. It serves as the record of what has passed. After each gaming session, come to the Adventure Log and write up what happened. In time, it will grow into a great story!

Best of all, each Adventure Log post is also a wiki page! You can link back and forth with your wiki, characters, and so forth as you wish.

One final tip: Before you jump in and try to write up the entire history for your campaign, take a deep breath. Rather than spending days writing and getting exhausted, I would suggest writing a quick “Story So Far” with only a summary. Then, get back to gaming! Grow your Adventure Log over time, rather than all at once.
